DoDo Launch and Recovery
DoDo (or Drive-On Drive-Off) as the name suggests is the system we use where the Inshore Atlantic-75 Lifeboat is launched and recovred from the seas onto a trailer.
The trailer with lifeboat attached is driven into the sea by a specially modified Tractor that may be almost totally immersed in the water - having a water-proof cab and a specially fitted engine intake and exhaust system. Once driven into sufficient depth the inshore lifeboat's engines can be started and the boat released into the seas.
Recovery is the reverse of the process and RNLI personnel are trained to launch and recover in surprisingly rough conditions, day and night.
